Little Eagle

This wine is reminiscent of Right-Bank Bordeaux. The colour is deep plum with a deep garnet rim. The nose explodes into an array of black berry fruit, raspberries, and red cherries, later showing hints of mocha and coffee.

This was the 2nd & 3rd vintage from 5 & 6 year old vines. The vineyards aspects ranged from east to north; perfectly positioned for these Bordeaux grapes, that were hand-picked, de-stalked & crushed into medium-sized open-top fermenters. Punch-downs or pump-overs were done 3-4 times a day, as determined by twice daily tastings by the winemaker. This ensured that fermentation was controlled according to the desired style. The temperatures were controlled: 24-30°C & fermentation took 12 days.

This wine is reminiscent of Right-Bank Bordeaux. The underlying spiciness, typical of cool climate grapes, pushes through the fruit quite powerfully. On the palate, the wine enters with the fruit profile of the nose carrying through to the taste buds. Plenty of ripe red and blackberries coupled with spiciness entice the tongue. These flavours carry right through supported, by elegant ripe soft tannins, which give a long and lingering finish.
